Takht-e-Bahi Monastic Complex

Last week I briefly visited the Takht-e-Bahi Monastic Complex off the Mardan-Malakand Road near the town of the same name. Following is the text intro from Wikipedia and hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves. Takht Bahi (or Takhtbai or Takht-i-Bahi) is a Buddhist monastic complex dating to the 1st century BCE.The complex is regarded by archaeologists as being particularly representative of the architecture of Buddhist monastic centers from its era. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.

Approaching the Complex...

The whole area is a sort of a recreational park mainly used by locals. Very good and safe atmosphere...

There are significant excavations yet to be made with some work being done by the Government of Pakistan. Original excavations were made by British teams around 1910.

Suhaib bhai.. Lovely Photography. Thank you for posting the pictures. I wish more of us would go there and learn more about our archeological heritage. It does looks overwhelming from the pictures.
